Robin Sharma Biography

Robin Sharma is a Canadian author who’s probably best known for his popular book series, The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari. He kicked off his career as a litigation lawyer but decided to make a bold move at just 25, leaving the legal world behind to dive into writing and personal development.

In 1994, he took a leap of faith and self-published his first book, MegaLiving, which dives into stress management and spirituality. His later work, The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari, really took off, eventually catching the eye of HarperCollins for a wider release.

Since then, Sharma has penned over a dozen books and founded his own training company, Sharma Leadership International. There, he offers coaching and development programs that focus on leadership and achieving high performance.

Robin Sharma has a rich background, with roots in both India and Uganda. Born in Mbale, Uganda, in 1965, he moved to Winnipeg with his family when he was just a baby, and later spent his childhood in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia. His father was a physician, his mother a teacher, and he has a brother who chose the path of an ophthalmologist. Sharma went on to attend Dalhousie University, where he dived into biology while also exploring his passion for romantic poetry, eventually earning a Master’s degree in law. He started his career in the legal field, working at a law firm and then with the Department of Justice in Ottawa, but soon realized that the legal profession wasn’t where his heart was.

At the age of 25, he decided to pick up the pen and began writing, gaining significant attention with his second book, The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari, which he self-published in 1997. The book’s success was a turning point for him, allowing him to leave law behind and embrace a full-time writing career. One of his notable later works is The Saint, the Surfer, and the CEO (2002), which tells the story of Jack Valentine, a man facing struggles who embarks on a transformative journey around the world after a life-changing accident, learning valuable lessons about wise living, serving others, and loving deeply along the way.

In addition to his writing, Sharma has made a name for himself as a motivational speaker and leadership expert. He’s worked with CEOs and corporate leaders, offering insights on employee motivation and personal growth, and has delivered impactful training sessions and talks for major companies like Nike, Microsoft, IBM, and FedEx. His expertise has also led him to speak at prestigious institutions such as Yale University, Harvard Business School, and even NASA.
