Katherine Ryan is a multi-talented Canadian comedian, writer, presenter, actress, and singer who has made quite a name for herself on British television and radio. You might recognize her from a bunch of popular panel shows like 8 Out of 10 Cats, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, A League of Their Own, Mock the Week, Would I Lie to You?, QI, Just a Minute, Safeword, and Have I Got News for You.

In 2015, she stepped into the role of host for Hair, taking over from Steve Jones. As for her acting chops, she’s graced UK sitcoms like Campus, Episodes, and even her own show, The Duchess. On the stand-up front, Ryan has lit up the stage on Live at the Apollo, both as a featured performer and a headliner. Plus, she’s got two Netflix stand-up specials under her belt: Katherine Ryan: In Trouble and Katherine Ryan: Glitter Room.

Ryan began working at Hooters, a restaurant chain, while she was still a university student. She also assisted in the training of other waitresses. She was fired after a short period of time on the job. She then tried her hand at open mic night performances, mostly for fun. It worked out so well for her that by the time she finished her studies, she had developed a basic comedy routine for herself. Ryan’s waitress training job with Hooters continued after she graduated, taking her to the United Kingdom, where they opened a branch in Nottingham. In January 2008, she relocated permanently to the United Kingdom. She appeared on Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats in 2012 while in England, and on February 23, 2013, she was a celebrity contestant on BBC One’s Let’s Dance for Comic Relief dancing to “Starships” as Nicki Minaj.
