Jovita Moore was a beloved American television journalist who made her mark at WSB-TV from 1998 until her untimely passing on October 28, 2021, at the age of 54 in Atlanta, Georgia. She kicked off her broadcasting journey in 1990 at KFSM-TV in Fort Smith, Arkansas. After three years, she took her talents to Memphis, Tennessee, where she worked for WMC-TV. Her big break came in 1998 when she joined WSB-TV in Atlanta, quickly becoming one of the city’s most trusted and recognizable news anchors.

In 2001, Moore received an Emmy Award for a compelling report on cystic fibroids, which included her own personal health struggles and surgery. Throughout her career, she amassed an impressive total of nine Emmy Awards.

In July 2012, she stepped into the role of lead anchor for the 5:00, 6:00, and 11:00 p.m. newscasts, taking over from Monica Kaufman Pearson and co-anchoring with Justin Farmer. Her contributions to the industry were further acknowledged in 2017 when she was honored with the prestigious Silver Circle Award from the Southeastern Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Outside of journalism, Moore was passionate about giving back to her community. She actively supported various civic and nonprofit organizations throughout metro Atlanta and served on several boards, including the Atlanta Association of Black Journalists and the National Association of Black Journalists.
