Ginger Zee is a well-known American meteorologist, best recognized as the chief meteorologist at ABC News in New York. With over a decade of experience at the ABC News network, she currently shares the latest weather updates on “Good Morning America” and across various ABC News broadcasts and digital platforms. In addition to her weather reporting, she also hosts an original digital series for ABC News called “Food Forecast.” Before her time at ABC News, Ginger spent five years as a meteorologist and reporter at WMAQ NBC in Chicago, Illinois.
Career
After wrapping up her college journey, Ginger Zee kicked off her career at various local TV and radio stations across the U.S. She got her start at places like WEYI-TV in Clio, Michigan, and WYIN-TV in Merrillville, Indiana, before moving on to WLAV-FM and WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She even interned under the renowned chief meteorologist James Spann at WBMA-LD ABC 33/40 in Birmingham, Alabama. Eventually, she made her way to WMAQ, the NBC station in Chicago, Illinois.
During her time at WMAQ from 2006 to 2011, Zee hit a significant milestone when she was invited to be a guest meteorologist on the weekend edition of The Today Show—a dream she had nurtured since high school. Plus, she’s an AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist, which adds to her credentials.
Zee really stepped into the national spotlight when she joined Good Morning America Weekend on November 12, 2011. From that point on, she made guest appearances on other ABC News shows, like Nightline and ABC World News Tonight.
On December 2, 2013, ABC News announced her promotion to Chief Meteorologist for Good Morning America and Weather Editor for ABC News, taking over from Sam Champion, who transitioned to The Weather Channel.

In 2015, she took part in Celebrity Jeopardy!, competing against Bellamy Young and Josh Gad, with Young ultimately winning that episode. The following year, she joined Season 22 of Dancing with the Stars, where she was paired with professional dancer Valentin Chmerkovskiy. They had a fantastic run throughout the season, finishing in third place, just behind runner-up Paige VanZant and winner Nyle DiMarco.

Before joining ABC News, zee served as a meteorologist for five years at WMAQ-Channel 5 NBC in Chicago, Illinois. She also held other duties for NBC and MSNBC News programs. Prior to joining WMAQ-Channel 5, she served as a meteorologist at WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids, Michigan. While there, she had the opportunity to cover the environment, science and the effects of weather throughout West Michigan. She also worked for two years at WEYI NBC 25 in Flint, Michigan.
