Tony Aiello Biography

Tony Aiello is a well-known television reporter for WCBS-TV in New York City. He became part of the station in October 2002, after spending over four years at WNBC. After nearly ten years of reporting from the station’s White Plains bureau, where he covered the northern suburbs, he’s now based at the CBS Broadcast Center in Manhattan.

Aiello made the move to New York in 1996 to join WBIS+, a station that was launched by Dow Jones & Company. Prior to that, he worked at various local affiliates, including WITI in Milwaukee and WTVF in Nashville, where he first adopted the on-air name “Tony.” Earlier in his career, while he was in Greenville, South Carolina; Charlottesville, Virginia; and Winchester, Virginia, he went by his birth name, “Carm.”

He earned his degree in telecommunications from Indiana University Bloomington in 1985. While there, he was part of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and also served on the Indiana University Student Foundation Steering Committee.

Beyond his reporting work, Aiello has made several media appearances, including a 2006 episode of Snapped on the Oxygen Network, where he talked about a criminal case, and he’s also appeared on Court TV to analyze high-profile trials he has covered.
On September 11, 2001, Aiello and his wife were among the passengers diverted to Gander, Newfoundland, as part of the emergency air traffic response following the September 11 attacks.

Outside of journalism, Aiello is actively involved in the Westchester County arts community, serving on boards like ArtsWestchester and the Westchester Philharmonic. His wife, Elizabeth, has held senior positions at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia and Sirius XM Holdings. Together, they have two children and reside in Harrison, New York.

Aiello has traveled widely in order to provide viewers a New York viewpoint on significant issues. Pope Francis broadcast live from St. Peter’s Square in Rome after his election in 2013, and he travelled to Paris hours later to oversee the station’s coverage of the November 2015 terror attacks. Aiello joined CBS 2 in October 2002 after nearly five years at WNBC-TV. He formerly worked for Dow Jones Television and the top syndicated business show “The Wall Street Journal Report” as a national correspondent. He’s also worked at stations in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Nashville, Tennessee, and Greenville, South Carolina as an anchor and reporter. Aiello is active in community organizations and Italian-American charities, such as the Westchester County Italian-American Forum.

He is a trustee of ArtsWestchester and a former board secretary of the Westchester Philharmonic. He was recently awarded the “Voice of the Arts Award” by ArtsWestchester.
