Guy Penrod Biography
Guy Penrod is a gospel music musician from the United States. He is best known for being the lead singer of the Gaither Vocal Band from 1994 to 2008. Carman, Steve Green, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, James Ingram, Phillips, Craig & Dean were among the artists he backed up in the studio.

He then went on to work as a studio session singer for singers such as Amy Grant, Carman, Garth Brooks, Michael W. Smith, and others. Penrod was a choir member at Christ Church. At a studio session, he met Bill Gaither and became a member of the Bill Gaither Vocal Band, where his powerful singing and vocal range earned him a large following through Gaither’s several international Homecoming events.
Penrod has contributed to over a dozen CDs issued under the Bill Gaither Vocal Band pseudonym. He rose to international prominence in 1994 as a result of his powerful vocals and wide vocal range. He’s performed in Gaither Homecoming concerts in the United States and Canada.
Penrod was offered a position as the new host of Gospel Music Showcase on the Daystar Television Network, a popular southern gospel music show. An Emmy award has been given to the show. Penrod was named “Soloist of the Year” at the National Quartet Convention in 2013. In May of 2014, he released Worship, his third solo album. He released “Christmas,” his first solo Christmas album. With 30,000 units sold, it was the second most popular album at Cracker Barrel stores, trailing only Blake Shelton’s release in September 2014. In the same year, he and the Gaither Vocal Band were inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
Following the inauguration of 45th US President Donald Trump in Washington, DC in January 2017, Penrod was a featured singer at the Family Research Council’s Faith Freedom and Future Inaugural Ball. Penrod returned in March 2017 with a new album titled Classics.

The CD was a one-of-a-kind solo recording of songs he wrote while with the Gaither Vocal Band. He has frequently appeared as a guest artist on the “Grand Ole Opry” stage. With his seventh solo album, Penrod returned to the well of treasured hymns. In February of this year, Blessed Assurance was made available to the general public. Penrod performs 12 new songs on the CD, all of which feature his characteristic country flavor.
