Where is Giselle Fernandez now? In 1983, she began her television career with KRDO-TV in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and KEYT-TV in Santa Barbara, California. In 1985, she started working for KTLA in Los Angeles as a reporter and weekend anchor. Actor Fess Parker, who lived in Santa Barbara and was a friend of the station’s news managing director at the time, suggested her to KTLA. Fernandez moved to WBBM-TV, a CBS-owned station in Chicago, two years later, and then to WCIX, a CBS-owned station in Miami, in 1989. She made headlines in Chicago in 1988 when she went boating with suspected drug dealer John Cappas and subsequently accompanied him to his arrest by federal officials.
She moved to New York City in October 1991 for her first national news job with CBS News, where she served as a journalist and backup anchor for the morning, evening, and weekend newscasts. She eventually joined NBC, where she presented Weekend Today and the Sunday edition of NBC Nightly News, as well as filling in for Brian Williams on the Saturday edition and doing numerous special reporting assignments in the US and abroad. While covering the Persian Gulf War, Fernández reported the Cuban immigration problem, riots in Haiti, the 1989 US invasion of Panama, the trial of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing conspirators, and a scud missile attack.
She was invited to conduct a rare interview with Fidel Castro, Cuba’s then-president. Fernández co-hosted Access Hollywood, an NBC entertainment news program, from 1996 to 1999. She later co-hosted the History Channel’s This Week in History show. She returned to Los Angeles and rejoined KTLA in October 2001.
In August 2003, she resigned from this role to pursue a variety of side pursuits, including directing a film and writing children’s books. Laredo Publishing Company released her book, Gigi and the Birthday Ring, in 2004. Skinny Hippo Productions is her own production firm, and she is also the co-president of F Squared Productions, where she produces film and television ideas.
