Where is Carol Marin going? Marin began her career in journalism in 1972 at WBIR-TV in Knoxville, Tennessee, where she worked as a reporter, anchor, and assistant news director. In 1976, she moved to WSM-TV in Nashville, where she was a significant figure in the investigative reporting that resulted in the removal and indictment of then-Tennessee Governor Ray Blanton. Marin began her career in 1978 at NBC-owned and operated WMAQ-TV in Chicago, where she stayed for over two decades. She resigned as a 6 and 10 p.m. news anchor on May 1, 1997, in protest of the station’s decision to offer Jerry Springer a commentary piece on the evening news program she anchored; her co-anchor Ron Magers followed suit a few weeks later.

Marin and producer Don Moseley were hired by CBS News two months later. She worked as a network correspondent and an investigative reporter for WBBM-TV, the CBS station in Chicago, on a dual assignment. Marin worked for CBS News’ 60 Minutes, 60 Minutes II, and Evening News with Dan Rather from 1997 to 2002. Marin and Moseley left CBS in 2002 to start their own documentary company, Marin Corp Productions. They’ve worked on projects for CNN, The New York Times, and The Discovery Channel. Marin Corp Productions is based at DePaul University, where they teach journalistic ethics to DePaul students through the Center for Journalism Integrity and Excellence.

Marin returned to WMAQ in 2004 and now works as the political editor for the station. Since 2004, Marin has been a political columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times. In 2006, she joined WTTW, a Chicago public radio station, as a contributor to Chicago Tonight. She moderates a lot of political panels. Marin confirmed her departure from WMAQ and WTTW after the November general election in September 2020.
