Brad Stephens is a journalist from the United States who co-anchors KCTV5 News at 5, 6, and 10 p.m. In October 2005, Stephens joined the KCTV5 News staff. Brad was honored to receive two Emmy nominations. He was nominated for two Emmy awards in 2016. One for a story in which KCTV teamed together with the Overland Park Fire Department to show how quickly most house fires spread. But he was being awarded the 2017 recipient of the local NAACP media and journalism award that he was most proud of.

He co-anchors KCTV5 News at 5, 6, and 10 p.m. Brad, like most individuals who live on the central plains, had a healthy respect for the destructive potential of tornadoes while growing up in Nebraska. But nothing could have prepared him for the dread of witnessing a big, deadly storm wreak havoc on a city and its residents. He and his KCTV colleagues documented the amazing wreckage and tremendous loss of life caused by the EF-5 tornado that forever changed Joplin, Missouri, for several days in May 2011.

Stephens has subsequently visited Joplin several times to chronicle the city’s strong comeback and the people’s tremendous determination to rebuild their hometown.

He’s had a rare front-row seat to a community’s highs and lows because of a career in the press. Brad would enjoy the thrill of a lifetime just a few years after the disastrous spring of 2011, reporting from San Francisco as the Kansas City Royals made their incredible run to the 2014 World Series with the Giants.

“Of course, I’ll never forget the thrill of being able to call Kauffman Stadium’my workplace’ the following year while covering the Royals’ World Series victory against the New York Mets,” he said.
