Andrea Mitchell is a Washington, D.C.-based American television journalist, anchor, and analyst for NBC News. She is the Chief Foreign Affairs and Washington Correspondent for NBC News, and she covered the 2008 presidential election campaign for NBC News shows such as NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, Today, and MSNBC.

She also covered Barack Obama’s trips to Iraq, the Middle East, and Europe during his presidential campaign. Mitchell presented MSNBC’s “The Mitchell Report,” NBC News’ election-year broadcast of record, during the 2000 campaign. She was also the lead NBC News correspondent for Hillary Rodham Clinton’s Senate campaign in 2000.

Mitchell served as NBC News’ chief White House correspondent after covering Bill Clinton from the New Hampshire primary through the 1992 presidential campaign. Mitchell was the network’s top congressional correspondent from 1988 to 1992, where he covered the budget, the savings and loan crisis, the Clarence Thomas hearings, and other legislative matters. She was also a panelist in the second Bush-Dukakis presidential debate and a regular political analyst on “TODAY.”

With the news that Bush had chosen Dan Quayle to be his running mate during the 1988 Republican National Convention, she beat both the competition and presidential candidate George Bush. She also participated in the final Bush-Dukakis presidential debate as a panelist.

Mitchell started as a general correspondent for NBC News in Washington, D.C. in 1978. She was named NBC News energy correspondent in 1979. She covered the energy crisis and the nuclear disaster at Three Mile Island in that position. She worked as a correspondent for WDVM-TV (formerly WTOP), the CBS affiliate in Washington, D.C., before joining NBC News. She worked as a broadcast journalist for KYW Radio and KYW-TV in Philadelphia from 1967 to 1976.
