April began her career as a jazz disc jockey after completing her B.S. degree. She worked as a reporter for radio stations such as North Carolina A&T University and as the news director for WXYV-FM in Baltimore, Maryland. In January 1997, she joined the White House press corps, working for American Urban Radio Networks. April had covered four presidential administrations as a White House correspondent as of 2020. She is a member of the National Press Club and has served on the White House Correspondents’ Association’s board of directors.
