Martha MacCallum is a well-known American journalist and news anchor at Fox News. One of her standout moments came in 2018 when she conducted a highly viewed exclusive interview with then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and his wife, Ashley Estes Kavanaugh, which turned out to be one of the most-watched broadcasts on cable news that night.

In 2023, she also hosted The Fall of the House of Murdaugh on Fox Nation, a documentary series that delved into the Alex Murdaugh murder case through interviews and archival footage.

MacCallum has occasionally made headlines for her live commentary during breaking news events, including her coverage of the January 6 Capitol riot, where her remarks sparked discussions and some criticism regarding their tone and framing.

She worked as a business news correspondent and anchor for The Wall Street Journal Report, World Market Outlook, and Business USA at Wall Street Journal Television from 1991 to 1996. She became an anchor and reporter for WBIS-TV, short-lived sports and business channel in New York, in 1996.

Following that, MacCallum worked for NBC/CNBC as a reporter/anchor. Before being assigned to co-anchor CNBC’s Morning Call with MacCallum and Ted David, she frequently contributed to The News with Brian Williams, Today, NBC affiliate news programs, and CNBC World. She also appeared on Checkpoint, a late-night program that focused on homeland security and the War on Terror. For Business Center, a former CNBC broadcast, MacCallum created the series “Inside the Business.”

In 2004, MacCallum joined Fox News Channel. From 2006 to 2010, she presented The Live Desk, and from 2010 to 2017, she hosted America’s Newsroom. On Fox News Channel, MacCallum hosted a new show called The First 100 Days, which premiered on January 9, 2017. After Megyn Kelly’s departure, it was developed as a replacement for Tucker Carlson Tonight, which relocated to the time slot originally occupied by The Kelly File. The show was renamed The Story with Martha on April 28, 2017.  By the end of 2020, upstart Newsmax had soared in the ratings, while MacCallum and Fox had plummeted. On January 11, her show “The Story” was downgraded from the premier 7 p.m. ET time slot to the 3 p.m. ET time slot.

“This is a big triumph for these demonstrators,” she declared after a throng of Trump supporters rushed the Capitol. They’ve completely destabilized the system!” She later described the events as “unsettling” and stressed that “control must be maintained” during coverage of the events.  The New York Times called it “bizarre” to connect “swarms of Trump supporters breaking into the seat of democracy, an action that made worldwide news, to a small-scale incident at the home of a Republican leader.”
