J.R. Lewis Biography

J.R. Lewis is a well-known American television personality, currently wearing two hats as the host and producer of KTVF’s “Interior Insights” podcast. Before this, he was the Morning News Anchor at the same station.

Lewis fondly recalls his childhood days when KTVF-TV and KFRB Radio (now known as KCBF, if I’m not mistaken) shared a space in the Northward building downtown. As a kid, he would sneak into the KTVF studio late at night, tossing paper airplanes around, convinced that Augie Hiebert (the founder of KTVF) wouldn’t catch him. His journey in media began at the age of 14 when he started working for his dad at KAYY (now Magic 101.1). He stayed there until 1992, then moved on to KLAM-AM in Cordova, which he and his wife bought in 1994.

They managed to keep KCDV-FM running in Cordova (can you believe Augie even came down for the launch??), and in 1997, they acquired both stations. Lewis feels incredibly thankful to be part of such a talented team. The Newscenter 11 staff is truly passionate about their work, and he hopes that both newcomers and seasoned pros can continue to serve Fairbanks with the dedication and integrity that the community deserves. So, I really hope you’ll join me bright and early on weekday mornings at 6:30 a.m. for the Fairbanks Morning News.
