Ernie Bjorkman Biography

Ernie Bjorkman is a well-known American television personality who currently serves as the morning news anchor at KWGN-TV (Channel 2) in Denver. He stepped back into this role in 2017 after having previously worked at the station.

Originally from New York City, Bjorkman moved to St. Augustine, Florida, in the early 1960s after the passing of his father. He later attended the University of Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism in 1972. His journalism journey kicked off in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he reported from 1972 to 1976. He then made his way to WSB-TV in Atlanta, Georgia, where he covered significant events like Jimmy Carter’s ascent to the presidency and the tragic Atlanta Child Murders.

Bjorkman’s Denver career took off in 1982 when he joined KMGH-TV as a field anchor. Just two years later, he transitioned to KWGN-TV (News 2) as the main anchor and managing editor. He eventually returned to KMGH-TV, anchoring there until 1998 before coming back to KWGN-TV as the primary anchor.

In 2008, KWGN and KDVR merged their operations and relocated to shared facilities in downtown Denver. Unfortunately, as part of this restructuring, Bjorkman and several colleagues were laid off. He then decided to switch gears and trained as a certified veterinary technician, spending about two years working in animal clinics across Colorado.

During this time, Bjorkman and his wife, Sue, traveled extensively, visiting places like Mongolia and China, and even engaged in Peace Corps activities in Ethiopia. The couple later enjoyed life on a houseboat in St. Augustine, Florida, where they worked as senior models, and Bjorkman took on freelance on-camera projects.

On March 8, 2017, it was announced that Bjorkman had sold his houseboat and would be making a comeback to KWGN-TV as the morning news anchor. He officially resumed his role on March 27, 2017.
