He was recognized at the Sports Emmy Awards for his career accomplishments and more than 25 years of community service. It is the greatest honor the Emmy Awards organization can offer. The Associated Press named Harris best commentary, best sports special, and best sportscast in 2017. He has won and been nominated for Emmys for his sports anchoring, storytelling, and commentary. He has won many Texas A.P. Broadcasters awards for excellent sportscast and best sports story, in addition to his signature.
He has received numerous awards from the Texas Association of Professional Broadcasters for best sportscast and best sports story, as well as his signature “Don’s Extra Point,” which has earned numerous awards for Best Editorial/Commentary. Youth, and the First Tee of San Antonio.
Over a million dollars was raised for local children thanks to the participation of many notable local sports superstars. Harris is also a member of the Harvey E. Najim Family Foundation and San Antonio Sports boards, as well as the advisory board of the Miracle League of San Antonio.
