Charles had a transformative experience when he was born again at just 12 years old, and he nurtured his Christian faith throughout his life. By 1969, he became a staff member at the Atlanta First Baptist Church, and just two years later, in 1971, he was appointed as the senior pastor. In 1972, he took a significant step by launching “The Chapel Hour,” a half-hour religious program that made its way to television. The show caught the attention of the Christian Broadcasting Network, which began airing it in 1978. In 1977, Pastor Charles founded a ministry called “In Touch,” inspired by a Living Bible he cherished.
This non-profit Christian Evangelical ministry was established with a mission to guide people worldwide into a relationship with Jesus Christ while also strengthening existing bonds. To maximize their outreach, In Touch Ministries utilizes various platforms, including magazines, radio, TV, and digital media, to share the Gospel. In 1985, he was honored to be elected as the President of the Southern Baptist Convention. Today, “In Touch with Dr. Charles Stanley” is broadcast globally in over 50 languages. As time went on, he appointed Dr. Anthony George, the senior associate pastor of First Baptist Atlanta, to succeed him as the church’s senior pastor.
