Robert Madison Griffin, better known as Bob Griffin, is a radio and television journalist with over fifty years of broadcasting experience in his adoptive city of Shreveport, Louisiana. He worked for a film business in St. Louis, Missouri, before starring in an off-Broadway production in New York City. Griffin joined KSLA, the CBS affiliate founded seven years earlier in 1954 as Shreveport’s first television station. He hosted the short-lived What’s News? a weekend quiz show for high school students, which was centered on current events and used questions from the previous week’s KSLA news and sports programs. He was primarily the sports editor at KSLA and became acquainted with a slew of local players, some of whom rose to national notoriety.
Among his early colleagues at the station were Don Owen, an Oklahoma native who served as news anchor from 1954 to 1984, and Al Bolton, an Alexandria, Louisiana native who served as chief meteorologist from 1954 to 1991. Griffin was in charge of sports twice a day, five days a week, and weather five nights a week. On Friday nights, he covered the top high school games as well as relevant college and professional teams. Griffin is supporting Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator in promoting the department’s “Safety Town,” which is located near the South Park Summer Grove Baptist Church between Walker Road and Jewella Avenue. The organization was founded to teach youngsters how to avoid danger and protect themselves. Griffin handled sports twice daily five days a week and the weather five nights a week. He covered the leading high school games on Friday nights as well as pertinent college and professional teams.
