Alana Brophy Biography

Alana Brophy is an American meteorologist who currently holds the position of Chief Meteorologist at ABC4 Utah in Salt Lake City. She became part of the ABC4 weather team back in December 2014, starting out as a reporter and weekend weather forecaster, and has worked her way up to lead the station’s weather department.

Having lived in Utah for a long time, Alana has developed a deep passion for forecasting the state’s unique and varied weather patterns. Her love for the changing seasons and climate is what initially drew her to a career in meteorology. To enhance her skills, she pursued a degree in Broadcast Meteorology at Mississippi State University while also covering some of Utah’s most significant weather events.

During her time at ABC4, Brophy has reported on numerous major stories, including the tragic Hildale flooding, flash floods at Zion National Park, the record-low water levels at Lake Powell and the Great Salt Lake, the Brian Head wildfire, and a multitude of winter storms throughout the state. She has also provided extensive coverage on the extreme heat impacting southern Utah.

Earlier in her career, while working in southern Utah, Alana spearheaded the investigative series “The Tri-State Crime Stoppers,” which played a crucial role in helping law enforcement track down and apprehend several fugitives. Her efforts were recognized with the Community Partnership Award from the Washington City Police Department.

Originally hailing from a family with roots in Staten Island, New York, Alana was raised in Northern Utah. She graduated from Judge Memorial High School and takes immense pride in supporting her family, including her brother, who is a dedicated Special Olympics athlete, and her older sister.

Alana and her husband have settled in beautiful Northern Utah, where they’re raising their daughter, who just so happens to celebrate her birthday on Pioneer Day. When she’s not busy in the newsroom, Alana loves to soak up the great outdoors with her family. Whether it’s skiing down the slopes, fly fishing in a serene stream, hiking through the mountains, or taking their two dogs, Teddy and Radar, for a stroll, she’s always up for an adventure. She is also a passionate supporter of the Special Olympics, Gonzaga basketball, and the Chicago Blackhawks.
